Week 1 Recap

World's Most Overrated dropped 112.82 points in Week 1 — the highest score of the young season — and you know what, maybe the name needs a second look. That is not an overrated performance. That is a 112-point warning shot fired across the bow of eleven other managers who are now quietly checking their rosters and questioning their life choices. Sitting alone atop the standings at 1-0 with the top score in the league, World's Most Overrated is already making the name ironic, and irony is the most dangerous weapon in fantasy football.

But let's talk about the matchup that had fingers hovering over screens until the final whistle. MARK SHANKCHEZ over The Burrenaissance, 101.92 to 97.02 — a margin of just 4.9 points. The Burrenaissance came into this league with a name built on rebirth and reinvention, and in Week 1 it was reborn as a team that almost won. Almost. MARK SHANKCHEZ escapes with the W, but that shank barely cleared the uprights, and everyone in the stadium heard the clang.

On the other end of the drama spectrum, All of the Sutton put up 107.38 and rolled Goat Mode by more than twenty, because apparently Goat Mode forgot to bring the goat — or any animal, really. An 86.54 is the season low, and if Goat Mode is going to live up to that name, Week 2 is going to require an actual GOAT performance and not whatever that was.

Allen my ass handled Sun God Welcome Committee by fifteen-plus, which means the sun didn't exactly rise on a warm Week 1 for that squad. Taylor made dispatched ImAStroudPenix by nearly thirteen, which stings a little extra when your team name is a quarterback committee and neither quarterback showed up to work. And kuppmylifetopieces survived Gadsden my Johnston in the closest margin outside of the SHANKCHEZ game — five points separating victory from despair, which in this league is basically a hug.

The tough-luck award goes to Multiple Scoregasms, who put up 105 points and still lost, which is the fantasy football equivalent of bringing a beautiful dish to a potluck and watching someone else win best entrée with store-bought pasta salad. World's Most Overrated just happened to be cooking hotter.

Six teams at 1-0, six teams staring at the wrong side of the ledger on opening week. The standings mean nothing and everything all at once — but they do mean that somewhere, a manager in last place is already making trades they will regret by Thursday.

Week 2 is coming, the scores reset to zero, and the only thing more dangerous than a team on a roll is a team with something to prove.
